 暑假夏令营活动开始，初中学生金华由于忍受不了长途跋涉，在他的小朋友"飞车队员"二宝的引诱下，私自离开了队伍，同二宝去观看"飞车表演"。二宝将金华介绍给"飞车皇后"女青年林惠珠。当林惠珠得知金华父亲是港务局长时，便主动吸收他为"飞车队员"。金华被林惠珠的花言巧语所蒙骗，回到云海港向爸爸说明了要买一辆漂亮轻骑的理由。当父亲了解到金华私自脱离了夏令营队伍并参加了"飞车队"时，大为吃惊。他耐心劝导金华，一定要追上队伍去参加夏令营的航模表演。临行时，他送给金华一块带洞的银元当做证明，让他沿路到几个地方歇脚、住宿。金华来到第一站铁奶奶家，受到热情接待。铁爷爷向金华讲述了银元的故事：当年金华爷爷为保护乡亲同敌人斗争，英勇牺牲。金华的爸爸就是拿着这块做联络暗号用的银元找到了游击队，消灭了敌人，解救了乡亲们。金华又来到第二站志平家。这个当年游击队长的儿子，竟整天无所事事，一味追求享受。金华急着要赶路，志平让他给林惠珠带去一辆轻骑，并暗中将一包东西塞进油箱里。金华骑车上了路，不料半路摔坏了轻骑。又累又渴的金华来到瓜地，偷摘了一个西瓜。看瓜的姑娘不容情，金华只好把那块银元当做抵押。第三站是当年的老交通周老大家。没想到看瓜的小姑娘就是周爷爷的孙女海萍。金华向周爷爷承认了自己的错误，并取得了海萍的谅解。轻骑没按时送到林惠珠那里，志平找到周老大家，碰上金华，可他偷藏在油箱里的走私物品，却早已被帮助修车的周老大发现。志平害怕周老大把他送到父亲那里，吓得悄悄地溜走了。这时，夏令营的队伍已来到目的地鹰嘴岛。老师在聘请周爷爷讲革命传统的同时，见到了金华，同学们热情地欢迎他归队。在夏令营航模表演就要开始时，志平将金华骗走带到一个山洞里，他伙同林惠珠对金华进行威逼和恐吓，事实教育了金华，他勇敢地与他们搏斗。正危急时刻，老师和同学们赶到解救了金华。精彩的航模表演开始了，金华小组取得胜利。金华庄严地走到主席台前，将那块银元交给特意赶来参加大会的爸爸。港务局长又将银元送给学校夏令营留作纪念。蔡老师激动地接过银元，向全体师生宣布："这块不平凡的银元凝结着老一辈革命先烈的鲜血，在向四化进军的今天，它仍然是一件非常珍贵和有意义的礼物！"
