　　钟馗（罗乐林 饰）因相貌陋丑而未能进入榜，愤而自杀。天帝封他为斩妖除魔圣君，使他拥有超凡的能力。钟馗还阳后，为报好友杜平的殓葬之恩，撮合了杜平的妹妹钟灵与杜平的姻缘。在民间，有五鬼作乱，钟馗施法收伏了五鬼，并封为鬼王。杜平与两个女鬼紫云、紫花展开了爱情，但遭到了花之主人三魔的干涉，最终紫花为了结束这段哀怨的感情选择了自我了断。
