张大千（1899-1983）曾被誉为500年来第一人，是20世纪从中国走向西方并享誉西方画坛的重要画家。 1949年，他选择自我放逐远离故土，漂泊海外，在异国他乡度过了生命的后半生。长篇纪录片「万里千寻」探寻和表现了这位中国画家鲜为人知的海外艺术和人生之旅，从而感受一位从东方走向西方并成为具有全球影响力的艺术家的心路历程。
